Credit Suisse Tremont Launches Emerging Markets Index

The New York-based Credit Suisse Tremont hedge fund index group has launched a diversified index that aims to capture the growth potential of the emerging market economies of Latin America, emerging Europe, Middle East and Africa and Asia - "LEA". Oliver Schupp, president of Credit Suisse Index, said: “The LEA index, an asset-weighted index with three sub-regional indices, represents the overall performance of this region-specific, emerging market hedge fund universe through a rules-based methodology. It offers systematic insight into the performance of hedge funds that seek to take advantage of the investment opportunities and inefficiencies in these three regions which are currently experiencing improved creditworthiness, strong domestic consumer demand and large inflows of foreign direct investment.” The index has semi-annual rebalancing and 42 constituent funds; it is available in the Specialty Indices section of www.hedgeindex.com. It will have a constituent fund list as well as monthly and weekly publishing of performance data. Credit Suisse Tremont Index is a joint venture company of Credit Suisse Index - a subsidiary of Credit Suisse - and Tremont Group Holdings.
